Building an online business can be really stressful at times, especially when you’re first starting out.
There are some days when you may feel like throwing in the towel and going back to corporate America.
Trust me, when I first started out here years ago I had plenty of these moments and I still get them from time to time to this day.
In the following post, I’ll be showing you how I stay motivated and get back into the mindset to work on my business even when you don’t feel like it.
If you can relate to any of this and have experienced this at any point in time while building your business then I encourage you to stick around as I’ll be showing you how to overcome this and continue moving forward.
1) Get Yourself An Accountability Partner
They always say that you work better as a team and this happens to be particularly true when it comes to building a business online.
This could be anyone really from your spouse to your best friend. As long as they believe in you and support what you’re doing.
I don’t know what I would do if it wasn’t for my good buddy John Cruz that keeps me in line and helps keep me motivated when things aren’t going so well for me.
I can remember plenty of times when I first started that he seemed to know exactly what to say to get me to snap out of the mood I was in and get me back in the right mindset to continue building my business.
Having an accountability partner is vital if you want to have any type of success in this business and come out on top.
2) Think About Why You Wanted To Start A Business In The First Place
Whenever things start to get rough for you guys, what’s the first thing that enters your mind?
Well, if you’re anything like me, then you have likely thought about quitting and throwing in the towel.
It always seems like quitting seems like the best option at the time but if you were thinking clearly this wouldn’t even pop into your head.
Whenever I start having these thoughts I go back and ask myself why I wanted to start this business in the first place?
Besides the fact that we all obviously want to make money here, this shouldn’t be the driving force behind your initial decision to start a business online.
Think back to when you first started.
What was your why for starting a business online?
What were some of the goals that you set?
Have you achieved any of these goals yet?
It’s always a great idea to sit back and try to remember some of the reasons why you started here in the first place.
This gives you a chance to hit the reset button and erase any negative thoughts that you may have had and gives you a renewed vision.
3) Think Positive Thoughts
This is one of the key things that helped me out whenever I starting thinking about giving up.
I know that when you’re upset you may find it hard to think positive but it’s highly imperative that you erase any negative thoughts out of your mind.
Instead of thinking about what could happen, start making things happen!!
Instead of complaining about how little traffic you’re getting, do something about it!!
Also, probably 1 of the best pieces of advice I can give to you guys today, is not to focus on the money and instead worry more about how to write content that serves your audience.
Start looking at things on a more positive note instead of thinking of what could go wrong.
You’ll be blown away at how much this will help you reach your goals a whole lot quicker and come that much closer to making your first sale online.
4) Realize That Things Will Get Better
When building a business online or any type of business for that matter, nothing is guaranteed.
You may have a $1,000 day one day and only make $50 the next day.
Usually, the first year or 2 is the most challenging time when getting started online if you can make it through your first year and are still motivated to continue pushing forward then things will definitely get better.
This is what I kept telling myself when I first started and what I currently tell myself today when I’m having a bad day and things aren’t going my way.
If you “don’t sweat the small stuff” so to speak and let minor things get you down and discourage you then you will have a much better chance of becoming successful in the online world.
My Closing Thoughts
Learning how to build a profitable business that generates enough income to pay your bills, put food on the table, and live comfortably can be quite challenging and will require a great deal of hard work.
The main issues that I faced when I first started were the motivation to continue working every day and putting in hours of work without getting paid and trying to stay focused.
Obviously, I no longer have to worry about the income part because I’ve been earning a full-time income online since early 2014.
However, I do still struggle to stay focused from time to time and I’m still easily distracted which is something I’m currently working on.
If you use the tips I’ve provided you with above and use them as a guideline in your own business you’ll be back on track in no time when you fall off the wagon.
If you’re looking for a like-minded group of entrepreneurs to bounce ideas off from and help you stay focused on meeting your goals then I would suggest you check out a company called Wealthy Affiliate.
This is the place that helps keep me motivated and gives me a pickup whenever I’m down.
This is also the place that has shown me how to build a website around a hobby of mine and turn that into a full time money making business.
If you’re looking for a place to start, build, and grow a business as large as you want to then I highly recommend you check them out for yourself and see what they can do for you.
Other than that, I really hope this post has helped you guys out and has motivated you to rethink your vision and either start building your dream or continue building your online empire.
