There are many deciding factors that will determine whether your online business is successful or not and one of them is choosing the right domain name for your business.
Before I talk about where to buy your domains, I want to help you guys understand why it’s so important to get the right one that fits your business and how to establish yourself in the online world.
Coming Up With A Name That Describes Your Business
Most people who get started online think that you can just buy any domain name that comes along without doing any proper research on a name that fits the kind of business that you want to go into. This is a recipe for disaster and one of the many reasons why most people fail at making money online.
I see people doing this all the time and it really bothers me to see people doing this. Within the following post, I want to share with you the steps that I have taken to successfully buy domain names that not only describe what my website is about, but also allows me to create my own brand.
If you wanted to build a website that’s focused on fitness trackers (Which seems to be trending a lot here lately) then you would obviously want to try and find a domain name that has the words fitness trackers in it somewhere right? Check screenshot below!
As you see in the screenshot above this has gained a good bit of traction over the past couple of years and people are actively searching for it.
Step 1- Do your due diligence by doing some proper research and find your targeted audience. Whenever I research a new niche I always use Google Trends so I can get a basic idea of how many people are searching for information on this topic so I know if it’s worth my time to create a site around this or not.
Step 2- Now that we know that people are interested in this topic it’s time to take things one step further and let Google tell us a few search terms that people are typing in to find more info on this. To do this, I like to use Google instant. This is simply the words that drop down as you are typing keywords into the search bar at the top. To get a better idea of what I’m talking about check out the screenshot that I have captured for you below.
From doing a simple search in Google I have been able to determine a few things that people are searching for within this niche. This also tells me 3 particular fitness trackers that are being searched for in Google that I could do a review on after I buy my domain name.
Step 3- Now that we have an idea of what people are searching for it’s time to plug some of these search terms into a keyword tool to see how many searches they’re getting on a monthly basis. There are many different keyword tools out there that range from free to paid. I personally like to use Jaaxy myself, but you’re free to use any keyword tool you would like. Take a look below at a few suggestions that Jaaxy gives us after I plug in the search term from step 2.
Listed above are many good keywords that would make a great domain name that would describe the kind of website we want to build, but one in particular really stands out to me. That would be top rated fitness trackers. As you see in the example above I have circled it in red for you guys. I could discuss the many different fitness trackers that are available on the market today as well as my top recommendations for the best place to purchase them online within this domain name.
Which Top Level Domain Is The Best .Com, .Org, Or .Net?
There are many different TLD’s available to you when it comes to buying a domain name. Just about anything that you can think of could be purchased as a domain extension for your new online business. Anything from .TV to .Money is available. Which one would make a good fit for you and will get ranked the highest in Google and other search engines?
In the 3 years that I’ve been an online marketer and the many, many domains that I’ve purchased I find that a .com will rank the best and Google actually favors this over any other TLD out there today. Let’s face it, sometimes it’s not always possible to get a .com so here are my top 3 recommendations for buying a domain that I would recommend when first getting started online.
Check them out below:
- .Com
- .Org
- .Net
I honestly wouldn’t recommend any other domain extensions then the 3 I listed above because from my personal experience they don’t seem to rank very well at all in Google and other search engines.
Where’s The Cheapest Place To Buy Your Domain?
For the past couple of years, I have always recommended Go daddy or Namecheap as the best place to purchase your domain name.
However, there has always been one thing in particular that I have always hated about the domain buying process from both of these companies (Go Daddy In Particular) and that’s the ridiculous and annoying upsells that are always thrown in your face.
They tell you that you need hosting, privacy, email accounts, among many other things that you simply DO NOT need. All of these things cost extra and they aren’t included in your initial purchase. The only thing that you really need is hosting when you buy a domain and I’ll even go one step further to include privacy.
You don’t want your personal information floating around out there for anyone to get a hold of do you?
If you don’t protect your information you’ll likely be getting phone calls and emails from marketing companies trying to solicit their SEO services and website building services to you which is something you don’t want.
Just a few weeks ago Wealthy Affiliate has decided to enter the domain world and they have changed the way you’ll buy domain names and have simplified the entire process.
Usually, you’ll need to go through the very confusing process of changing your DNS settings and updating your name servers.
Thanks to the awesome technical team at WA they do all of this for you so that you can focus on what matters the most which is building your business. Also, all of the upsells that I mentioned above is included in the domain pricing at WA.
Take a look at the chart below to see how much money you’ll save by buying your domains at WA compared to other domain registrars in the industry!
Not only will you get everything listed above with your domain purchase, but you’ll also be joining the top online business training center in the world.
You’ll learn how to take your domain name and turn it into an online business promoting something you love with their step by step task based lessons.
I have bought domains from many other registrars in the past but none of them came with training on how to turn your domain name into an online business.
For the past 10 years, WA has always been the #1 place to go to learn how to build an online business but there was always a missing piece to the puzzle.
With the newly added addition of domains, this makes their website building platform complete.
Hopefully, I have been able to shed some light on the whole domain name process and show you the importance of having a domain name that describes what your business is about.
If you have any questions, comments, or anything you would like to add I would love to hear about it and answer your questions in the comments below. I will get back to you A.S.A.P!
Cheers

Some really great advice here in respect to domains. Far too often I see people getting caught up in the “hype” surround the new gTLD’s. Domains like .event, .rocks, .anything tend not to rank all that well in Google along with domains like .info which are infamous for going on sale for $0.99.
When you build your website, it all starts with a solid foundation. If you choose a domain name that is going to stifle your potential success moving forward, then you are starting it off on the wrong foot.
A .com in Google’s eyes is always going to be the best for SEO because they naturally believe that you are the “brand” if you own the .com version of the domain.

Hi Kyle,
Like you’ve said, I also see people giving into the hype that surrounds all these new gTLD’s and buying up all the .rocks and, .info’s that they can because they’re on sale for a special price. Far too many times, I have also seen people trying to promote something that’s totally unrelated to their domain name.
It all starts with your domain name and if you mess this up it could potentially impact how successful you are online. I agree with you that a .com should always be your first choice because Google prefers this over any other extension. I do want to thank you for dropping by Kyle and sharing your thoughts on this topic of discussion. It’s really appreciated!
