I seem to get asked this question almost every day and I have answered it many times.
To save me from having to answer this question another 50 times I thought I would blog about it instead.
Within this post, I’ll be answering this question as well as giving you some background history about my education.
Here’s A Little Back Story About Me First
Before we get started today, I want to share a story with everyone here and give you guys some insights into some of my education so you’ll know that I wasn’t the smartest kid in my class. I was just your average student who got decent grades. I didn’t graduate with honors nor did I have a high GPA or a degree in marketing.
I started at the bottom just like everyone else did and I’ve worked my way up. I occasionally get emails from people who seem to think that I possess some kind of special skills that nobody else has and that’s why I’m lucky to be making money online.
First of all, it has nothing to do with luck and it requires no kind of special skills to make money online. There is one thing however, that is required and that’s lots of hard work, motivation, and a drive to succeed. I’m just an average guy who got sick of working minimum wages jobs and decided to start my own online business.
Do You Have To Be A Great Writer To Make Money Online?
Absolutely not! I think I’m living proof of that. I have always told other people that if I can do this, I know that anyone else can if they set their mind to it. Will you suck at first? Yes, you probably will, but that’s to be expected. When I first started online, I really sucked at writing. It took me at least a year or more before I started to write natural, and the more I wrote, the better I got at it.
Let me ask you a question. When you start a new job are you naturally good at it or does it take you a while to catch on? For most of us the latter would be true and the same thing applies when you’re writing content online.
What most people fail to realize is that we are constantly writing every day in some form whether it be texting friends, sending emails, or updating our Facebook status.
All of this involves writing and we all do this without even thinking about it. Writing content online isn’t much different than what you’re doing right now. As much as you might think you suck I can assure you that you can do this and I’ll be here to help you 100% of the way.
Practice Makes Perfect
In order to be good at anything, it’s going to require lots of practice and this holds especially true when you’re learning how to build your first website and publishing content online. If you take a look at some of the top bloggers out there today, none of them were good when they first started and chances are that they probably sucked.
The more you write the better you’ll get at it and once you get over the huge learning curve, things will start to get easier for you.
Making Money Online Requires A Plan
While there aren’t many qualifications required to become successful in the online world, it does require a few things which I’ll list below.
You’ll Need:
- A passion or hobby to write about which will determine your niche
- Some Solid Training that shows you how to turn your hobby into a full time online business
- A willingness to learn something new and open your mind up to new and exciting things.
- Work hard and devote as much time to it as you possibly can
- Get out of the 9-5 mindset and be willing to work hard at first without getting paid
- Determination to succeed and not be afraid to ask questions when you need help
How Will You Make Money Online From Writing?
Now that you know that you don’t need to be some expert writer to succeed online, you need to come up with what you’ll be writing about before you even think about making any money.
It all comes down to 3 questions which I’ll ask you below
- What are you passionate about?
- Could you see yourself writing about this passion of yours for the next 3 or 4 years?
- Do you get excited every time you think about this passion and could you talk about it for hours?
Once you answer these 3 questions you’ll be able to narrow this down and focus on what you’ll be writing about to make your first dollar online.
Where Does The Money Come From?
Once you determine what you’ll be writing about you need to associate it with a product or service of some kind. There are thousands of companies out there that offer these products and services with Amazon, Walmart, Target, and Best Buy being some of the top names out there.
You’ll need to sign up for something called an affiliate program which is free to join. You’ll simply be writing reviews about these products and offering your honest opinion about them. At the end of your review, you’ll need to put your affiliate link which you’ll be provided with once you become a member of their affiliate program.
When someone reads your review, likes it, and wants to read more about it, they can click on your affiliate link for purchasing options or to get more information about the product. For every person that clicks on your link and makes a purchase, you’ll make a commission. That’s pretty sweet if you ask me wouldn’t you agree?
Are You Ready To Get Over Your Fear Of Writing And Start Making Some Money?
Anyone can make money online it doesn’t matter if you’re a teenager in high school or someone who’s retired and looking for ways to supplement your social security check each month. You could be the worst writer in the world but if you’re willing to work at getting better and don’t let this get in the way of your dreams of making money online, then I can see you doing very well here.
Like I said earlier, all it takes is determination and a willingness to open your mind up and learn a new skill. I have been writing online for over 3 years now and I’m making a full time living doing so. This may require you to step outside of your comfort zone but wouldn’t it be worth it if this is what it would take to get over your fear of writing?
It just requires a plan of action and some hard work.
The place that has taught me how to be a better writer and has shown me how to build a profitable online business is Wealthy Affiliate. They offer a free starter membership which includes everything you need to get up and running with your first website so that you can start perfecting your writing skills and get trained on how to make your first dollar online.
I really hope this has helped answer everyone’s question about whether you need to be a great writer in order to make money online. If there was anything that I left out, or if you still have questions concerning this topic I would love to hear about them in the comments below.
Until Next Time!
