When making the decision to get started online there are many things that may get in your way and hinder you from making the amount of progress that you would like to.
Probably 1 of the biggest stumbling blocks that got in my way when I first started here close to 4 years ago was my so-called friends and family who did nothing but put me down.
With the exception of a select few, the majority of my so-called friends had nothing encouraging to say when I told them about my decision to start an online business.
They pretty much told me that I was crazy and that I should go out and get a J.O.B like everyone else.
As a matter of fact, my ex-wife told me that I was wasting my time here and that I would never make a dime with this business.
It’s a good thing I didn’t listen to her or anyone else or I probably wouldn’t have ever found success online.
In the following post, I’ll be sharing a few ways that I dealt with the toxic people in my life.
I’ll also be giving you guys a few solid reasons why you should avoid these types of people like the plague when you first get started in the online world.
Are you guys ready?
Toxic People Will Drain The Energy Right Out Of You
For most of my life I have been surrounded by negative people and up until 4 years ago, it didn’t really bother me that much.
Since I was working a J.O.B like they were and living pretty much the same lifestyle as them, why would it?
It wasn’t until I got sick of living like everyone else and I decided to do something about it and take charge of my destiny.
Even after I got divorced, I still seemed to attract these types of people like a magnet and this is when I really started to notice it.
I can remember several times being so excited when I first started here that I had to share it with my friends and family.
Whenever I brought this up to them they would automatically shut me down and tell me to wake up and face reality.
Even though I didn’t let this bother me, I still couldn’t help but feel a little down!
Can you guys really blame me?
How would you feel if this happened to you?
It’s best to avoid these types of people because they really can drain all the positive energy out of you if you let them.
You Will Never Be Successful By Hanging Out With The Wrong Crowd
If your circle of friends consists of druggies, thieves, and people who have no motivation what does that say about you?
Do you really think you can make something of yourself and be successful by surrounding yourself with losers?
Here in the past year alone, I have had to remove many people like this from my life and I have replaced them with like-minded positive people who lift me up and keep me motivated.
If you surround yourself with positive like-minded people you’ll be amazed at what a difference this can make for you.
They Will Never Understand You Or Be Able To Relate To You
Every once in a while we all need to get a few things off our chest and it’s great to have someone that we can talk to about how things are going in your business.
I tried explaining what I did for a living to a buddy of mine a while back and I might as well been speaking in another language because he had no idea what I was talking about.
Why is that you may ask?
This is because he’s stuck in the 9-5 mindset.
These types of people will never understand the day to day struggles you face when building an online business and they never will.
By surrounding yourself with like minded people who can relate to what you’re going through and give you a helping hand when you need it plays a huge role in whether you’re successful in this business or not.
How To Deal With Toxic People
Depending on whether they are your close family, friends, or just an acquaintance will determine how you should deal with them.
Everyone’s situation will likely be different, but here is how I dealt with the toxic people in my life and a few tips to help you guys do the same.
Other than my ex wife, the only other toxic people in my life at the time were a few of my buddies and my next door neighbor (Which was really a downer)
I slowly started to distance myself from the people who would drag me down the most and eventually severed ties with them completely.
I found that the best way to deal with a toxic family member or someone who doubts you is to prove them wrong. Instead of letting their negativity get me down, I turned this into a positive and used this as motivation to work harder.
Soon afterward I made them eat their words and they now have much more respect for me now than they did before.
Here are a few tips that you can use to deal with a toxic family member or a friend
Family Members- If this is someone you live with or your spouse the best thing you can do is sit down and have a talk with them. Tell them how passionate you are about this and let them know how detrimental they are being to your success.
Friends- If they are a true friend they should support you and be there to lift you up instead of tearing you down. If they’re not, then you don’t need these kinds of people in your life anyway.
Cut Them Off!!
Ask yourself how you would benefit from having these people in your life?
What will you gain by having them as a friend?
Conclusion
Over the past several years my circle of friends has gotten smaller and I now only associate with people who lift me up and motivate me to work harder so I can continue to reach my goals.
Making the transition from corporate America to an online business owner isn’t exactly an easy task but it’s definitely possible if you’re willing to put in the hard work and surround yourself with positive people.
