What in the world is a niche?
Before I get started with showing you how to choose your niche, I want to make sure you understand what a niche is. When I first started, someone asked me what’s your niche and I had no idea what they were talking about. I am going to try and be as clear about this as I possibly can and try not to confuse you.
What exactly is a niche and how can I find mine?
A niche could be anything really I’m sure you have dozens of niches in your house right now that you use everyday but just don’t know about it.
Let me explain, for example just looking around my front room I am finding a few niches right now. I am going to list a few definitions of what a niche is.
- Anything that is sold online and you could write about.
- A hobby of yours or anything that you are passionate about and love talking about it.
- A potential problem you might have whether it’s financial or a health condition.
- A product or service you may have recently bought and would like to let others know how great it is.
There are a couple of things you should keep in mind when choosing your niche
- It doesn’t matter what niche you choose, any niche can be profitable.
- You should always try to narrow it down as much as you possibly can.
- Don’t spend too much time trying to think of the perfect niche.
- You can always change your niche later on if you want to.
Now that I have explained what a niche is it’s time to show you how to find your niche
The best way to find a niche, and really dig down deep into that niche is by heading over to dmoz. This is an online directory of over 5 million websites with a vast amount of different niches and sub niche category’s to pick from.
Let’s say computers are your passion, you would simply click on computers and you are presented with over 96,000 different category’s for this niche.
As you can see this is a really broad niche so if you want to have any success with this niche at all you will need to dig down deeper to get more targeted results. Just for the sake of this example I am going to click on hardware. This is a little more targeted then what we had before but we are still presented with over 5,000 results.
Next I am going to click on components, now we are getting somewhere. I think we can still narrow it down more than this, as we are presented with 681 results. I am going to click on processors now and I am presented with 272 results.
I think that we have narrowed this niche down enough to where we can start getting some ideas to write about now. You could narrow this down a little more if you wanted to but you don’t want to cut yourself too short.
I could start listing the different kinds of computer processors if I wanted to and the benefits of each one.
Is there any additional training available on how to find niches?
I am so glad you asked. Yes there is plenty of training available on how to find niches like the 1 I showed you above along with lots of other training that you will need to be successful.
The only place that I can recommend that has in depth training on niche marketing, how to find niches, and many more subjects like this is the wealthy affiliate university. I have learned so much about niches, and how to turn your hobby into a full time career that I don’t know what I would do if I didn’t find them.
You can check out my entire detailed review here.
I’m sure you have some questions on finding niches and I would love to hear them. Please leave your questions below and I will answer them A.S.A.P Your Friend Scott
Thanks so much for posting this section. I read about your past experience with Ameriplan and how you started with WA and everything. I was getting on board very quickly with the thought of it all, except for my confusion with the “niche” part. So this cleared up a lot! I’m interested to get started and see how far I can get with WA. I’m really encouraged that money can be generated from the starter membership as I’m not sure I can convince my husband of paying for the premium yet. I am definitely willing to learn about everything that’s offered!
