Making the transition from working for someone else as an employee to becoming an online business owner can take a while for you to adapt to and make all the necessary changes.
Trust me, it took me quite a while to make this transition myself and I know from personal experience how frustrating this can be.
I thought I would sit down and write a blog post about many of the struggles and challenges that I faced when I first started out in the online world.
I have compiled a list of these struggles and challenges that I faced along the way and I’ll be showing you how I overcame them and was able to continue pushing myself and become successful in this industry.
Some Insights Into My Background
Before I discovered affiliate marketing and learned how to build a business online I was just a regular Joe like many of you reading this post right now.
I busted my butt working 40+ hours a week at a job that I hated, working for a boss that I hated even more.
I lived paycheck to paycheck and had a pretty simple life!!
I’ve done everything from flipping burgers at Mc’ds to working a factory job!!
Believe me, I’ve seen it all and back then I thought I had a pretty good life and was living the dream.
However, after a while, I got sick of being constantly broke and having someone else dictate how much money I could make, and how to live my life.
How I Made The Transition From Employee To Online Business Owner
When I first started searching for a way to make money online, I had no idea that I would need to make so many life changing decisions and change my way of thinking.
Making this transition would require me to make many sacrifices, change many of my habits, and pretty much change my entire thought process.
At this point, I was willing to sell my soul to the devil if I needed to ( not really lol) in order to change my life and start living on my terms for once, instead of having a boss tell me what I could and couldn’t do.
Here are just a few of the things I needed to change to make this transition as smooth as possible!!
- How I Got Paid
- The People I Associated With
- My mindset
- Self-motivation and determination
I’ll be going into detail about each one of these things and showing you guys how I adapted to these things and slowly transitioned myself into this new lifestyle.
Trading Time For Money Vs Being Paid On A Commission Basis
When I first started out in the online world, it took me quite some time before I was able to wrap my head around the concept of how you get paid.
I was so used to getting paid by the hour and the whole concept of getting paid on a commission basis really baffled me and it took me some time to adapt to this.
Since I wasn’t getting paid on an hourly basis, I also had to re-adjust my way of thinking and realize that all the work that I put in during the beginning stages wouldn’t pay off until 6 months to a year from when I started.
Eventually, I got used to the idea of working for the future and instead of getting paid a predetermined amount of money each week, I finally had the freedom to start writing my own paychecks.
How cool is that?
This motivated me to work harder and devote more time to building out my business so that I could increase the number of income streams I had coming in.
After lots of hard work, dedication, and focus, I was able to turn my weekly income into my daily income and this absolutely blew my mind.
Take a look at how much I was able to earn in just 1 day from 1 of my many income streams!!
When I got paid by the hour I didn’t even come close to making this much in a weeks time and the thought of earning this much in 1 day had me ecstatic!!
Changing Your Mindset
This is one of the things I struggled with the most when I first started out in the online world and it took me quite some time before I changed my way of thinking and was able to see things in a positive light.
Changing your mindset is one of the key factors that determine whether you’ll make it in this industry or not.
Why is that you may ask?
Well, let’s sit back and think about this for a minute, OK?
The way you analyze certain situations and think things over will determine the overall outcome and whether you succeed or fail.
Does this make sense to you guys?
Would you be willing to change your way of thinking and start looking at things differently in exchange for a better life?
Do you feel confident enough to cut the apron strings from your employer and start building your own personal empire?
What sacrifices are you willing to make to be successful?
These are all questions you need to keep in mind and ask yourself when making the transition from corporate America to the online world.
If you don’t truly believe in yourself and you lack the confidence needed to make a go of this then you’re wasting your time here.
What Type Of People Do You Hang Out With?
Believe it or not, this also plays a huge role in how successful you are in this business and it took me quite a while to figure this out when I first started.
For most of my adult life, I never seemed to attract the right crowd and I always seemed to hang out with losers who had no ambition or motivation to better themselves.
When you think about it though it makes perfect sense!!
Do you expect someone who works a minimum wage job to understand what it’s like to be an online business owner and think the same way that you do?
I think not!!
Surrounding yourself with negative people isn’t a good idea anyway no matter what your situation may be.
If you expect these people to support your decision to move into the online space so that you can better your life, then I’m afraid you’re going to be highly disappointed.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you need to ditch your old friends and make new ones.
I’m simply saying that in order to be successful here, it’s a good idea for you to hang out with like-minded people who support you and will be there for you when you need it the most.
Finding The Motivation To Continue Pushing Forward
This was probably one of the biggest challenges that I faced when I first started out here 4 years ago.
Since I no longer had a boss breathing down my neck telling me to get to work, I had to find other ways to stay motivated so that I could continue working towards my goals.
When I first started out here, I found this to be pretty challenging and for the longest time I had trouble staying focused.
However, whenever I started to lose motivation I would think back to all the success that I’ve had thus far and told myself that I needed to continue pushing forward if I wanted to continue in this business.

I struggled with this as well and it took me a while before I was able to get my mind right and start hanging out with people that would support me instead of tearing me down.
