What Is QKids?
People talk about making money online a lot. Nowadays, it is very easy to get online, find a site and start making money (sometimes even almost immediately).
Qkids, like many of those sites, offers you a way to make a few extra bucks; but even better, you do it in a fun and productive way.
Qkids is an online platform that allows people from Canada and the United States to teach English to Chinese kids.
Compared to VIPKID, Qkids is probably the best because everything has been made easy for the teachers and the requirements are minimal.
While many platforms might require you to buy props for your lessons, Qkids offers all the teaching necessities on their platform.
You do not need a teaching certificate—as long as you are enrolled in a university program or already have a degree.
Qkids was started in 2015 to help kids in China learn English as a second language.
Although learning English is included in the Chinese education system, some parents still feel the need to have their children get more assistance in learning the language.
Your students will be kids aged 5-12 years old.
Surprisingly, Qkids has grown to be one of the best English-learning platforms despite it being only three years old.
What Are The Requirements Of Being A Qkids Teacher?
- You need to be a native English speaker residing in the United States or Canada.
- You must be currently pursuing or already have a college degree.
- Previous experience working with kids or a high learning potential
- You must be ready to teach at least twelve 30-minute classes weekly.
- Reliable Internet speed, (Minimum of 3mbs upload speed & 15 Mbs download speed)
- Webcam, USB headset, mouse and a direct Ethernet connection
- Finally (and more importantly), you should be a cheerful, positive person that loves kids. Otherwise, you will make your life and that of the kids miserable.
How and When Do You Get Paid At Qkids?
This is probably the most important question for people thinking about joining Qkids as teachers. The base pay is $8 dollars an hour.
However, this is accompanied by a lot of bonuses such as a bonus for being on time. Most hardworking teachers earn $16-$25 an hour.
Payment is made through bank transfer to Canada or U.S bank accounts.
Qkids takes care of the transfer fees.
Money is reimbursed monthly, by the 15th of every month.
In the case of any Chinese national holiday, the pay date extends to the next week automatically.
All payments are made in US dollars, even for teachers residing in Canada.
As far as tax matters are concerned, you bear the responsibilities of your own taxes based on your country and state laws because you are an independent contractor at Qkids.
How Do You Apply?
Go over to the Qkids website to fill the application form.
The first part requires you to fill out your personal details.
Enter a referral code if you were referred by someone.
It is okay if you do not have one.
Next, a video is required (about 1-2 minutes long). In this short video, you introduce yourself and talk about your education and experience.
You will also be required to read or tell a children’s story.
Since it is a job for teaching kids, read the story as though you are reading it to kids.
Upload your documents as requested.
Select your availability.
This can be changed later so do not let it stress you.
Make sure everything is in order then submit the form.
If your application looks good to the Qkids staff, they will contact you via email and request an interview. Scan your documents so you will be ready when they ask for them.
After Demo interviews 1 and 2, you will be assigned a trial class where you teach actual lessons and get family feedback from the classes.
The trial classes are paid. If you pass the trials you get hired. That’s it!
How Does It Work?
As already mentioned, things have been made easy at Qkids. They have everything you need on the platform, including props and preset modules.
You will not need to hassle for students. This takes a huge load off your shoulders. You can imagine how hard it would be to find students as a new teacher.
Before each lesson, prepare by familiarizing yourself with the provided materials. Take your time to make sure everything is perfect beforehand.
Each lesson lasts for 30 minutes. Three minutes before each lesson starts, you are required to inspect the classroom equipment.
In every lesson, you will be assigned, 1-4 students. Most of the time, your students will be the same but expect new faces every now and then.
As a teacher, you will have no interaction with your students’ parents. The Qkids staff will take care of that and give you the feedback.
The teacher’s schedule at Qkids is very flexible and you can take time off when you need to.
Just make sure you notify the Class Coordination Team in advance—give a one-month notice if possible.
Advantages of Working At Qkids
- The application process is simple and quick and so is the hiring process.
- The software and curriculum are user-friendly.
- Paid training is available if you need to gain more knowledge on Qkids software.
- You have all the lessons prepared for you.
- Qkids sets your schedule depending on availability and assigns you, students.
- You deal with very few kids in every lesson.
- You do not have to review students and interact with parents.
- The pay is good.
- The children are awesome.
- There is no rating system and you get feedback for every lesson.
Disadvantages of Working AT Qkids
- Due to the time difference, some people have to be ready to start teaching as early as 4 AM
- You can only work for a maximum of 19 hours a week so Qkids cannot be your sole source of income.
Final Thoughts
As you can see, the advantages outweigh the disadvantages. The requirements are not insane and most people can meet them.
Since everything is done online, you can work from anywhere. It is the perfect side-hustle for stay-at-home moms, college students and people who are always traveling.
The best part of Qkids is probably getting to interact with adorable kids and being paid for it.
Add to that the fact that the staff sets everything up for you.
This is one of the best online jobs you can ever get.
However, due to the 19 hr per week limitation thats currently in place for this opportunity, you might want to consider pairing this with other freelancing jobs online to help make ends meet.
Other than that, I really hope this QKids Review has offered you some insight into what this opportunity is all about and whether or not this would make a good fit for you or not.
Still confused or have any additional questions for me that I failed to answer above?
I would love to help you out and answer them for you in the comments below.
Until Next Time
