What Exactly Does The Term “Squeeze Page” Mean?
A squeeze page is any page where you need to enter information like your email address, phone number, or any other information in exchange for a free gift of some sort.
Why do they call it a squeeze page?
That’s an excellent question and the answer is quite simple!!
Once you enter your email address you’ll literally be squeezed through a sales funnel and land on a landing page of some kind.
This is where you’ll need to verify your email and opt-in to receive emails, updates, and special offers from this person.
Essentially, this is a page that squeezes information out of you in exchange for something of value.
Hence the name “Squeeze Page”
This could be an ebook, video, or some kind of a course just to name a few things.
Make sense?
I’ll be going into more detail on the types of things you could offer in exchange for a customer’s email here in a few minutes so bear with me.
If you go about this in the right way, this could be a highly effective way to build an email list of subscribers who are interested in what you have to offer.
When you sit back and think about it, when they enter their information into your squeeze page they’re giving you permission to send them updates, marketing emails, and special offers.
It doesn’t get much more targeted than that!!
Wouldn’t you guys agree?
In order to succeed tho, you’ll need to establish a relationship with these people first and make sure you’re always providing value.
Once people start to trust you, they’ll listen to you and this is when you can begin to earn revenue from them.
The Do’s & Don’ts Of Creating A Squeeze Page
There are many variations of a squeeze page and there are a variety of ways for you to create one.
Like everything in life, there is a right way and a wrong way to go about this and I’ll be showing you guys the right way to go about this as well as the wrong way.
I’ll be categorizing these into 2 separate categories and showing you the best way to go about this to have the most success.
The Natural Way- When it comes to building any type of a customer relationship it’s highly imperative that you do so in the most natural way possible.
When people sign up for any type of online opportunity or make the decision to sign up to your email list or enter their information on a squeeze page it should be of their own free will.
Right?
Let me ask you guys a question!!
When was the last time you purchased something online, liked an FB page, or entered your email into a squeeze page because you were forced to do so?
I’m not sure about you guys, but I prefer to participate in these online activities of my own free will, rather than being forced to enter my email address just to continue reading.
Here are a few ways to create a squeeze page that won’t divert people’s attention away from your content and how to make your squeeze page blend into your website and stand out.
Add an opt-in box to your sidebar- In my honest opinion, I feel like this is one of the most natural ways to generate leads to your squeeze page and have the highest conversion rate.
Why?
Think about this for a minute!!
This usually sits to the right of your website and only inherits a small secluded space on your site.
With an appealing and captivating call to action, and a steady flow of daily visitors to your site and you could really increase your opt-in rate and increase your revenue.
If people like your content and they find it to be helpful, informative and overall engaging, people will naturally want to sign up for your updates.
Whether this is a newsletter, subscribing to an RSS feed, or joining an email list.
This usually requires some kind of an autoresponder service like Aweber or Mailchimp and you’ll need to be comfortable copying and pasting HTML code into your site.
If you aren’t comfortable editing and copy/pasting HTML code and you aren’t ready to invest in an autoresponder just yet, that’s perfectly fine.
There are many WordPress plugins out there that will basically do the same thing as what I described above plus a few additional ways for you to add a squeeze page to your site by clicking a few buttons.
This includes having a small window pop up to your right asking you to sign up to receive updates.
You could also have a pop up when people go to leave your site as well as a last attempt to get their email address before they abandon your site.
These are just a few of the most effective ways to create a squeeze page that I would recommend to you guys if you’re looking to be successful with this marketing technique.
The Forced Way- When trying to establish any kind of a customer relationship in the online world you should steer clear of trying to force people to take any kind of action on your website.
This includes opting into to an email list, liking an FB page, or sharing content.
When was the last time you guys landed on a website and started reading the content, only to be interrupted by a huge pop-up 30 seconds later, that smacks you in the face, and asks you to enter your email address?
Don’t you just hate that?
This happens to be a huge pet peeve of mine and I find this to be really annoying!!
The majority of the time when this happens, I usually click out of the site and move on to a more non-intrusive one that isn’t going to try and squeeze information out of me 30 seconds after I land on their site.
Not only does this distract the reader from focusing on your content, but, they also fail to find the information they were originally looking for when they entered keywords into Google to find your site.
All of this leads to an overall negative user experience, and chances are that these people may leave your site and never come back.
Think about that for a minute and let it sink in!!
Tips On How To Create An Effective Squeeze Page
There are many factors that you need to keep in mind when creating a highly converting squeeze page that generates leads and sales on a daily basis.
Captivating & Interesting Call To Action- Before your squeeze page can start generating leads, it’s absolutely crucial that your opt-in form has a strong call to action and gives your readers precise instructions as to what you want them to do.
Your Offer- Once you’ve captivated people’s interest and they have opted in you need to make sure you’re providing them with value.
If they don’t feel that they’re getting what they were promised when they signed up then chances are that they’ll unsubscribe, unlike, or reverse any previous action they took when opting into your page in the first place.
Your initial free product should be something available exclusively from you and not something you’ll find for free on the internet somewhere.
Don’t Come Off As Salesy- The whole idea of creating a squeeze page or any page on your website for that matter is to help other people find the information they’re looking for and provide them with a solution to their problem.
I can’t remember how many times I’ve entered my information into a squeeze page only to have several products shoved down my throat shortly after I joined.
By doing this you’ll be setting yourself up for failure and if you do happen to have any kind of success in the online world, it will be short lived.
Nobody likes to be sold to and I for one particularly don’t like a salesman and I will go out of my way to avoid them.
For example, I shop at Wal-Mart quite often and it seems like I always get approached by the Direct TV associates at their booth inside the store.
They’re always trying to either sell me something or get me to switch from cable to dish.
I politely inform them that I’m satisfied with cable and move on!!
The same thing applies in the online world and in order to have any kind of success you need to help people and make sure you’re providing value in everything you do.
My Final Thoughts On Squeeze Pages
I actually have mixed thoughts on this particular topic and I can see the good as well as the not so good.
The good being that squeeze pages can be a valuable asset to your online business and this can be a phenomenal way to generate leads and increase your revenue each month.
This still remains by far one of the best ways to generate leads in 2017 and I don’t see them going anywhere anytime soon.
If you have a basic understanding of online marketing and you’re looking to expand your reach then I think you could possibly benefit from this marketing technique.
The not so good part about squeeze pages is the fact that squeeze pages are primarily used by sleazy IM gurus who sell you on the idea of making money and offer NO real value.
If you’re new to online marketing and wondering if you should worry about squeeze pages when first starting out I would say NO.
This is an advanced marketing strategy that I personally wouldn’t recommend you venture into until you have a deeper understanding of how online business works.
I would personally recommend that you start out with the basics and learn all you can before jumping into this advanced marketing technique.
