If you visit my website often then you know that I expose scams on here all the time. As a matter of fact, I set up a page specifically for you guys to report programs to me that you feel are scams and I’ll do a thorough review of it here on my website. Well, today I want to talk to you guys about a particular scam that has been around for longer than I can remember. It’s also one that I continued to be a part of for over 20 years until I finally found my way out of it.
What is it you may ask? Keep reading as I reveal one of the biggest scams that many people get mixed up in every day and are continuously looking for a way out.
What Is The 40-40-40 Scam?
This is where you work for someone else for 40 hours a week for 40 years and try to retire off of 40% of what you could barely live on when you were working. This is commonly referred to as a J.O.B (Just Over Broke). Millions of people continue to be a part of this scam across the globe every day and it seems to be a growing epidemic. We have been brainwashed to think this way and have been told ever since we were a kid that this is the only way to make a living.
If you’re the kind of person who doesn’t mind busting your butt and working hard to fulfill someone else’s dreams instead of working on and fulfilling your own dreams, then by all means keep doing what you’re doing.
Why Do People Continue To Become A Victim Of This Scam?
Like I said earlier, society has brainwashed us to believe that this is the American way. We have been brought up to believe that the only way to get anywhere in life or make a living is by working for someone else. Like many of you who may be reading this now, I was also the victim of this scam for most of my adult life until one day about 3 years ago I finally woke up and realized that I didn’t want to work for someone else for the rest of my life and barely be able to make ends meet.
Ever since I was 18 years old I had a passion for working for myself and I had always wanted to learn how to build my own business and live the life that I deserved to live. I was sick of someone else planning my life for me and having them tell me how much money I could make or when I could go to work.
Whoever thought up this whole plan needs to have their head examined.
Let Me Put A Few Things Into Perspective For Everyone & Show You Why You’re Not Being Paid What You Think You Are.
First off, I want to put a few things into perspective for you guys today and show you why you’ll never get ahead by working for someone else and holding down a J.O.B. Don’t get me wrong if you have a really good job making a good salary then this may not apply to you. However, for the most part, this applies to people who are either earning minimum wage or slightly above it and working 40 hours a week or below.
Let’s talk numbers here for a minute and let me ask you a few questions. Let’s say you typically work 40 hours a week. This comes out to 160 hours a month and over the course of a years time this works out to 1,920 hours. Most employers give you a 2-week vacation a year and I have already calculated this into this scenario above.
How many days can you get out of 1,920 hours? Let’s do the math and find out!
1,920 divided by 24= 80
You work all year and you’re only getting paid for less than 3 months of work. Pretty crazy when you break it down like this isn’t it? This is why you’re struggling to make ends meet and barely getting by each month.
If you’re a teenager who just got your first job or you’re a stay at home mom looking for some extra money then this wouldn’t be so bad, but do you really think you could retire off of this income and be able to live comfortably?
This is something you need to seriously think long and hard about because this is the reality of what’s in store for you when you reach retirement age.
Let Me Show You The Way Out And A Better Way To Live
When I started Affiliate Marketing 3 years ago I was just like you and I was living paycheck to paycheck looking for a way out. I had had more than my fair share of J.O.B.S to last me a lifetime and I knew there had to be a better way to live.
Did you know that with Affiliate Marketing you can take your passions and hobbies and turn them into a full time business? This is what I have been doing for 3 years now, and in that time, I have helped hundreds of people end the madness and stop trading their valuable time for money.
With affiliate marketing you simply create content that connects people with the information they’re looking for online and provides them with a solution to their problem. You get paid by simply helping people find the products they’re looking for and pointing them in the right direction.
I also want to point out that I started out doing this with NO experience and I wasn’t even that tech savvy. Trust me when I say that anyone can do this if you really put your mind to it and focus on learning a new skill that could change your life forever.
I’ve learned everything I know today from Wealthy Affiliate and I’m still a very proud member today after 3 years. I highly recommend that you click on the link above to check them out for yourself and see everything they have to offer you.
What are some of your thoughts on this topic? Are you currently involved in the 40 40 40 scam and looking for a way out? I would love to hear all about it in the comments below. Also, if you were to retire right now could you live comfortably on 40% of what you’re making right now?
Until Next Time

Hi Scott,
I agree that these days, a job generally means just over broke. 🙂
However, the average length of a job today is about four years, and that’s assuming you’re not just let go because you don’t fit the corporate policies, etc.
You might want to consider updating this to reflect that today, not only do jobs last four years, but you are not guaranteed anything. If your boss tells you exactly what to do, he or she will always, find somebody cheaper than you to do what you’re doing today. The economy has moved on. We live in the information age, not the industrial age. Industries everywhere are dying forever; and will never recover. The economy of old is not coming back; we live in a connected economy today. The problem in a large part is with the U.S school system still teaching industrial age advice.
In my opinion, financial education is far more important today rather than your school report card or college degree ever possibly could be. But hey. If people are lucky enough to find jobs, great. Some will continue to like having them. But I certainly hope people don’t continue to hope their boss will take care of them forever, nor the Government. Because that idea too, is crashing down around our ears.

Hi Keith,
Yes, I agree with you that having a J.O.B in today’s age means that you are just over broke. When I originally wrote this post, I was talking about the amount of time you would end up working over your whole career, not just with 1 particular job. I also agree that you’re never guaranteed any job in corporate America and it doesn’t matter how good of a worker you are, they never seem to see the good in you. They are always criticizing your work and looking to point out something you didn’t do.
Trust me, I worked for someone else my whole life and I can totally relate to what you’re saying here, Keith. I also agree with you that companies are always looking for a way to cut costs. If that means finding someone to replace you that will do the same job you’re doing for cheaper, so be it.
I feel that we do live in an information age and that the industrial age is being phased out and as we move forward this will be a thing of the past. I’m sure these jobs will always be around and many people will be satisfied with them. With the way the economy is today, nothing is guaranteed anymore. About the only way to get ahead nowadays is to build a website around something you love and work hard at it.
Hard work and dedication does pay off but the majority of people don’t see success because they’re not willing to stick with it. I really do appreciate you stopping by Keith and sharing your experiences you’ve had from different jobs. It’s much appreciated.
Cheers
Your Friend, Scott
