Here lately VIPKID has come up in my social media newsfeed more than once and I’ve actually had this on my list of programs to review for quite some time now but I’ve never got around to writing this review for you guys.
Early last week, the company that handles the advertising for this particular company sent me an email and stated that they think this program would make a good fit for my site.
I wrote them back and let them know that I agreed with them and that I would love to do a thorough review of VIPKID and share this with my readers today.
Are you a teacher interested in earning an extra $2k a month teaching kids from China the English language?
Within the following review, I’ll be showing you the requirements that you’ll need to meet for this job as well as all the information you need to know before you apply.
Has this particular opportunity landed in your inbox or have you run across this on Facebook?
Chances are that you may be wondering if this opportunity is legit, or if it’s nothing more than another work from home scam that you should avoid.
I tend to answer all of your questions and provide you with all the necessary info needed for you to make a sound decision as to whether this opportunity would make a good fit for you or not.
Who Is VIPKID?
Established in 2013 by Cindy Mi, VIPKID provides a one on one fully immersive classroom experience to millions of Chinese students ranging from 4 to 12 years of age all from the comfort of their home.
Their headquarters are based in Bejing, China and they provide their own curriculum that designs the materials for each class every day.
Also, it’s important to mention that their language and content classes follow the guidelines established by the US Common Core.
Due to their innovative learning platform and outstanding curriculum, they have won multiple awards for bridging the gap between 2 cultures.
Not only will you be teaching these children the English language, they’ll also be learning about American cultures and some of the traditions of the United States.
As a teacher, you’ll also learn about some of the traditions that take place in China and learn about their cultures as well.
Their most honorable achievement was back in 2014 when they received the US/ China Entrepreneur Leadership Award.
Forbes has also ranked them in the top 5 remote companies to work for in 2017!!

How To Get Started
If you have met all of the requirements listed above, and you would like more information on how to get started with this opportunity, then I encourage you to continue reading as I’ll be going over this in detail below.
Click Here to submit an application with them and get the ball rolling.
The application process takes about 5 minutes and upon approval, you’ll be contacted for an interview.
You’ll pass through 5 stages before you officially become a full-fledged teacher and I’ll list these for you guys below
- Submit your resume
- Schedule an Interview
- Introduction To Teaching(A series of videos you’ll need to watch)
- Mock Class- Practice teaching session with another VIPKID teacher
- Sign a 6-month contract and upload the necessary DOC files
There are 2 ways that you can book an interview and they are as follows
- Pick a time slot from their calendar on the interview page(Interview sessions generally last 30 mins)
- Record an interview on your own time and upload it to them for further evaluation
Whatever option you decide to go with, you’ll need to showcase your teaching skills to your recruiter and verify that your equipment and internet connection is stable enough to conduct a smooth 30-minute video streaming session with a server in China.
Once you go through the 5 steps that I’ve listed above and you become a certified teacher you’ll need to list the timeslots that you’re available on your portal so that parents and students can start booking you.
Other Important Information You Need To Know
Due to the time zones differences between China and the US, this means that you could possibly need to be ready to teach at 4 am each day.
Depending on whether you’re a night owl or an early riser will determine whether this would be a deal breaker or seal the deal for you.
If you live in the US and are in the Eastern time zone then chances are that this will affect you.
However, if you happen to be in another time zone then this shouldn’t have much of an effect on you.
Also, all classes are one on one so you would never teach more than 1 student at a time!!
Classes usually start between the hours of 4 am EST to 10 am.
This opportunity is available worldwide and there are no restrictions on the availability of this program.
As long as you have met the requirements above and have a strong internet connection you’re good to go!!
Due to the millions of students registered in their database and growing, there is no guarantee that you’ll have the same students in your class each time you host a teaching session.
Their contracts are 6 months long and at the end of each contract, your performance will be evaluated.
If they like your style of teaching and you’ve done an exceptional job in the first 6 months you’ll likely be asked to sign another 6-month contract and could possibly get a raise.
There’s also no need for you to prepare any teaching materials as these are provided for you within the online teaching curriculum.
However, you are required to review this material prior to the start of each class.
You can review class material in the teacher’s portal 6 to 12 hours in advance.
How Much Money Can You Earn As An Online English Teacher?
There is the potential to earn up to $22 an hour.
This includes classroom incentives and other bonuses you’ll get for completing each class according to their specified instructions.
Take a look at the screenshot that I’ve captured for you guys below to get a better idea of how much money is possible with this company
One of the things that I like about this opportunity the most is the fact that you can work part-time hours and earn full-time money.
Let’s say that you decided to only work at this for 3 hours a day 7 days a week and you lived up to all the requirements listed above to qualify for the $22 an hour pay rate.
3 hours a day X 7 days a week= 21 hours a week
$22/hr x 21 hours = $462 a week
$462 x 4 weeks = $1,848
Just think of the income potential if you were to work 40 hours a week?
You’ll be considered an independent contractor so you’ll be responsible for taking out, filing, and paying your own income taxes.
You can earn up to 600 bucks a year without having to file or pay any taxes, but anything over this, you’ll be required to pay taxes on.
My Final Thoughts
If you’re the type of person who enjoys teaching kids from China the English language while learning about Chinese culture then you should definitely check out VIPKID.
Since you’ll be considered as an independent contractor, you can set your own schedule and work as much or as little as you want.
Like I showed you guys above, you can work as little as 3 hours a day in the morning and earn over $1800 a month.
Just imagine how much you could earn if you worked 5 to 6 hours a day?
There is definitely some great potential to earn money here if you’re passionate about teaching and you enjoy working with kids.
I really hope this review has helped you guys out and provided you with all the info you need to determine whether this opportunity would make a good fit for you or not.
